Running since 2000, the Moore Barlow Silicon Cup Regatta has helped raise over one million pounds for charity through networking events for IT professionals. Appsbroker last participated in 2019, the summer before the pandemic – claiming 1st place and winning the Best Newcomer Award in the process.

This year’s event takes place in September, over two days in Port Solent, Portsmouth, and consists of two days of sailing, a party, an evening meal and a charity auction. Now, post-Covid, Appsbroker is thrilled to reconnect with Google Cloud on and off the water, along with fellow partners on a personal level, to help raise money for some very worthy good causes.

“I was lucky enough to attend in 2019. It was our first year attending, and to my great delight, we won! This was my first ever sailing experience, and I found it a great opportunity to meet colleagues while participating in a new experience. I think working as a team to win the race forges greater working collaboration between Google Cloud and their partners”

Sam Dent, Financial Controller

Whilst the Regatta (previously sponsored by Moore Blatch) is a place for Appsbroker to build and grow relationships and friendships across companies, the real prize is the amount of money raised for charity. This year, the auction will help change lives through the following non-profit organisations:

  • The Genie’s Wish is a new charity that was recently registered in the UK. It focuses on helping people suffering from a critical or terminal illness, or living with a life-limiting medical condition.
  • Andrew Simpson Foundation strive to make sailing available to more people and to get the most out of it for all who participate. It aims to optimise the benefits for young people and society as a whole.
  • Greig City Academy sailing programme is an inner-city school sail training programme in Britain. It uses sailing as a way to help change the lives of students, mostly from BAME backgrounds.

As part of this charity auction, Appsbroker is donating an overnight stay on our exclusive off-grid retreat. Thorne Island is a former Napoleonic fort, renovated by Founder and CEO Mike Conner. To learn more about this unforgettable landmark, read Thorne Island on Huge Homes With Hugh Dennis.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the event and we hope that #TeamPurple emerges victorious once again!
